Die Schwimmende Insel
Am Karstwanderweg liegt ein besonders tiefer Erdfall, der durch die Ablagerungen des Buntsandsteins hin durchgebrochen ist.
Ursache des Einbruches sind eingestürzte Höhlen, die sich im tiefer gelegenen Anhydrit befinden. Durch den Regen wurden undurchlässige tonige Sedimente am Boden des Erdfalles zusammengeschwemmt. Diese stauen das Niederschlagswasser zu einem kleinen Erdfallsee.
Schon nach kurzer Zeit besiedeln Wasserpflanzen den See. Die abgestorbenen Pflanzenreste sinken auf den Seeboden und bilden dort Ablagerungen von Faulschlamm und Mudde. Von den Ufern her wachsen torfbildende Pflanzen in den See hinein und überwuchern seine ganze Oberfläche. Nicht selten reißen davon Teile ab und bilden "Schwimmende Inseln " auf dem Wasser. Von einer solchen Bildung bekam der Erdfall seinen Namen. Diese Insel ist in der Zwischenzeit allerdings wieder festgewachsen.
In der Verlandungszone des Erdfallsees wachsen viele seltene Sumpf- und Moorpflanzen, der Erdfall steht deshalb unter Naturschutz.
Mit der Zeit wird die Schwingmoordecke das Wasserpolster völlig überwuchern. Dann ist der Erdfallsee verlandet.
Da es sich hier um ein Naturschutzgebiet handelt, müssen die offiziellen Wege zu keiner Zeit verlassen werden.
The Floating Island
On the hiking trail is a particularly deep sinkhole that has broken through the deposits of mottled sandstone down.
Cause of the break-in are collapsed caves that are located in deeper anhydrite. Through the rain impermeable clayey sediments were swept along the bottom of the sinkhole. This dam up the water to precipitate a small sinkhole lake.
After a short time water plants settle the lake . The dead plants sink to the ground, where they form deposits of sludge and mudde. From the banks of peat-forming plants grow forth into the lake and overgrow its entire surface. Not infrequently, tear it off and partsare "floating islands" on the water. Of such a formation of the sinkhole got its name. This island is in the meantime, however, to have grown again.
In the sedimentation zone of the sinkhole lake there grow many rare marsh and bog plants, the sinkhole is therefore protected.
Over time, the blanket bog swinging the water cushion is completely overgrown. Then the sinkhole lake is silted up.
This is a nature reserve. The official ways must not be abandoned.
