Geocache Description:

Please be careful when looking for this cache as vehicles do drive quickly thru this area. You do NOT have to go onto private property or climb under the bridge. Park just north of the bridge on the gravel area next to the railroad crossing. DO NOT park south of the bridge as this is private property.

This is a great spot to stop and check out the Red Clay Creek as it passing thru this area. You can also view the Wilmington & Western Railroad when the train makes runs heading for Mount Cuba and Hockessin. Red Clay Valley Association (redclayvalley.org). Notice the many signs of flooding in this area. There are large amounts of debris in the fields surrounding the bridge, and stuck in amongst the guardrails and fences. This debris is from the recent flooding events from Hurricane Irene. It is obvious that water levels were above the roadway.

If you look south from the bridge along the roadway, you can make out the cliff thru the trees. Rock for the Wilmington & Western railway was quarried from this area. During the cold winter months, large amounts of ice can be seen handing from the cliff. Several houses are perched at the edge of the cliff and have a great view of the valley.
