Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden near the water at the reservoir, which was built in the 1930's, and extended in the 1940's, and further extended in the 1970's. It is a medium tupperware box containing one goodie and one trackable.

This geocache is by Gleann Dubh reservoir. The reservoir was built in the late 1970's. It was built for the Alginate Factory at Barcaldine. The factory turned seaweed into alginate which was used in toothpaste, ice-cream and sweets. The factory is closed, but the reservoir supplies water for a small hydro-electric station. It is filled by a stream called Abhainn Teithil. It has a splillway to stop it getting too full.

It is 12 metres deep at the wall and there is a house at the bottom of the reservoir which can be seen when the water level is low. It holds 1.25 million cubic litres of water and 600 litres per second go through the turbine in the hydro-electric station.
