Treviglas College - CITO Event 04 - 04/02/2012
Cache-In Trash-Out Event
This event is a litter collection exercise across Dartmoor's Merrivale area. (This event has been cleared with the Commoners association).
The event encourages individuals to undertake litter collecting across the moorland area known as Merrivale, on Saturday 4th February 2012, between 11am and 2pm (Three hour window).
Defined features on the moor, which are areas of outstanding natural beauty are worth visiting, (and are being targeted for litter collection) are:
Great Mis Tor(538m), North Hessary Tor(517m), Great Staple Tor(455)and Kings Tor(380m). There are however several other features on the moor, including Boundary Works, Blowing House Remains and various other enclosures, hut circles and ancient settlements which are amazing features.
During the time frame of this CITO Event, three teams of students from Treviglas Community College will be out walking on the the Walkhampton Common section of the moor (See below update). These teams are undertaking a practise walk as part of their Gold Expedition section of their Duke of Edinburgh's Award. These groups have several Geo-Cachers as members, will be carrying at least one Travel-Bug (Copy Tag) per team (Please ask to see the TB), and will be collecting litter along the way.
Please enjoy your walk, collect litter along the way, and enjoy the scenery, and support the Commoners Association by the removal of litter left by other inconsiderate moorland users.
For safety, it is advisable to ensure that you undertake the following prior to going onto the moor:
a). Ensure you are properly clothed and equipped.
b). Make sure you have a mobile phone, map & compass.
c). Always let someone know where you are going.
d). We advise you avoid Marshy Areas.
e). Read all the Geocaching.com CITO information.
f). Remove all the litter you have collected.
g). No liability is accepted by the organisers.
h). Light rain/drizzle/mist will not cancel the event.
NOTE:
To varify you have attended the event, you must sign the CITO log book, on the day of the event itself. This log book is located in a well marked box, and will be situated in the area marked as having a PUMP HOUSE, at map reference (OS Map SX567750).

UPDATE 03/02/12
Due to possible incliment weather, the actual area covered by Treviglas College students is being ammended to Walkhampton Common for safety reasons. The CITO times and specifications remain the same, except that these specific students will be litter collecting there instead of the locations mentioned above.
The cache will remain placed at the PUMPING HOUSE Map Reference SX567750, and will be under an orange road cone.
TRACKABLES
Three TB's will be left in this cache at the beginning of the day, please only swop them on a 1 for 1 basis, rather than take them all, as this allows others to DISCOVER TB's during the day, and allows that when the cache closes, there will be three different TB's in the cache to travel back to Cornwall. If you chose to RETRIEVE a TB, please ensure you list the TB as being RETRIEVED as this cache will only stay live until 02/03/12 when it will be archived.
