Mitten im Horbacher Spessart befindet sich eine unscheinbare Senke, die nur bei genauem Hinsehen einen wunderbaren Schatz offenbart.
Der Spessart gehört zu den sogenannten Varisziden – einem Gebirge, welches bei der Kollision der Paläo-Kontinente Gondwana und Euramerika vor etwa 360-290 Mio. Jahren entstand. Durch die variszischen Orogenese bildeten sich unter anderem das Rheinische Schiefergebirge, Erzgebirge, Harz, Schwarzwald und der Odenwald.
Diese Aufbrüche des Grundgebirges sind Teil der sogenannten Mitteldeutschen Kristallinschwelle – eine Reihe von mehr oder weniger isolierten Kristallingebieten - die von der Haardt über den kristallinen Odenwald bis nach Osteuropa verlaufen.
Der Grundgebirgsteil läßt sich in lithologisch deutlich gegeneinander unterscheidbare Zonen gliedern.
Begrenzt wird der kristalline Vorspessart im Osten und Süden von Sedimenten des Zechsteins und Buntsandsteins, im Norden und Nordwesten grenzen rote Ton- und Sandsteine, sowie vulkanische Gesteine der Unterperm-Zeit (Rotliegend); im Westen -entlang der Spessart-Randverwerfung- schließt sich die Hanau-Seligenstädter Senke, ein Teil der Untermainebene, an.
Das hier auffindbare geschieferte Metamorphit wurde zur Gewinnung von Wegebaumaterial angelegt und gestattet uns einen Einblick in die Erdgeschichte. Es entstand in der Erd-Urzeit aus ehemaligen abgelagerten Tonmaterial nach einer später erfolgten Umwanderung unter dem Einfluss von Druck und sehr hohen Temperaturen.

Somewhere in the "Horbacher Spessart" you can find a quite unimpressive sink, which reveals a wonderful treasure if you dare to take a closer look.
The Spessart belongs to the so-called Variscid – a rock mass, which arose through the collision of the Palaeo-continents Gondwana and Euramerika about 360-290 Mio. years ago.
Because of the variszischen Orogenese the Rheinische Schiefergebirge, Erzgebirge, Harz, Schwarzwald and the Odenwald were formed amongst others.
These ground heaving of the fundamental complex are part of the so-called middlegerman crystallinesills– a line of more or less isolated crystallareas - which runs from the Haardt over the crystallines Odenwald up to eastern Europe.
The different parts of the basement rock can be well-defined divided in lithicly distinguishable zones.
The crystalline Vorspessart is limited in the east and south with formation of the upper permian and the new red sandstone, in the north and northwest with red flint clay and sandstone as well as with volcanic stones from the underperm-form; in the west along the Spessart joins the Hanau-Seligenstädter hollow, a part of the Undermainplain.
The slated metamorphic rock that you can find here was used to gain building materials and allows us to see behind the curtain geological history of the earth.
It came into existence at primitive times out of quondam material after a later happened reconversion under the influence of pressure and extremly high temperatures..
