The original 'Spirit of Hyde park' cache went missing. The mural is great and still wanted people to visit it so this new cache was placed.
The cache is NOT at posted coordinates and stealth will be needed most times of the day.
Finished in 1973, the Spirit of Hyde Park Mural is one of many across the city. The mural depicts Hyde Park history in many of its various manifestations: poverty and wealth, racism and the struggle for civil rights, the unrest caused by urban renewal and the efforts of the community to stabilize and integrate. It records events - the 1893World's Fair, removal of the Nike sights, protests against a highway in Jackson Park - and it acknowledges institutions - the University of Chicago, the Chicago Children's Choir, the CourtTheater, the architectural heritage of Hyde Park - which have distinguished our community. Sadly the mural has fallen on hard times. It has been defaced and its paint is slowly peeling away. The mural was recently redone - parts of the mural were cleaned and repainted, while other sections were painted over with entirely new designs
"Forgotten Chicago" is a series of caches designed to highlight some of Chicago's storied past and draw attention to once great landmarks that have been abandoned to the ravages of time.
In order to find the cache you will need to gather some information from the mural and do some simple calculations.
A = Take the First, Fourth and Last letter of the lead artist first name and add the number equivalents together.
B = Subtract the year it was originally painted from the year it was repainted.
C= Walk east and observe the mural. About half way down the mural, you will see signs painted as part of the mural. Take the number of letters in the 3rd sign and add to the number of letters in the last sign.
In order to get the North coordinates of the final, do the following calculation:
B - A/2 + 3 and subtract from the posted North coordinates.
In order to get the West coordinates of the final, do the following calculation:
C * 6 + 3 + number of letters in the 3rd sign and subtract from the West coordinates.
A 1/2 tick for difficulty was added due to stealth needed.
