Geocache Description:

The Breeders' Cup World Championships is an annual series of Thoroughbred horse races that usually takes place the first weekend of November each year. The event was created as a year-end championship for North American Thoroughbred racing and is widely-considered the "Super Bowl" of horse racing as the races typically have the largest purses and draw the best Thoroughbreds from across the world. In 2011, the 28th Breeders' Cup World Championship is being held in Louisville, KY, at the home of the Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs.

This cache series is a tribute to each horse running in the Breeders' Cup Classic, the richest and best race on the card, as well as horse racing handicapping tips that you might, at some point in time, find useful.

Flat Out is a five year old Florida bred owned by Preston Stables, trained by Charles Dickey, and ridden by jockey Alex Solis. Flat Out has 12 career starts, but this is somewhat misleading as he was limited to one race in the 2010 campaign. Over his career, he has won $1,109,713 and five races. He is listed on the morning line as having 6-1 odds to win the race based upon the strength of his past four races, where he has finished first or second.

This brings us to our horse handicapping lesson for this cache. What is the Morning Line, you ask? After the post positions are drawn for each published race, the official track handicapper assigns a winning percentage for each horse entered. He evaluates each horse based upon numerous factors including, but not limited to, the following: recent race results, current form, trainer and jockey, running style, and weight carried. The Morning Line is usually a good barometer of an objective opinion of a horse before the public starts betting on the race. The Morning Line odds are published in the official track program for each race, but they can more easily be found in the Daily Racing Form's Past Performances immediately under the horse's name.
