Geocache Description:

Houmas House is open daily for tours and hosts many events, so muggles may be present. There's room for small trade items, but no pen so BYOP.

Houmas House sits on land that belonged to the Houmas Indians. Alexandre Latil and Maurice Conway purchased property from Houmas Chief Calabe in 1776, and Latil built a small four-room house that still exists behind the main house. Houmas House was built in 1840 and, after several owners, fell into disrepair until its purchase in 1940 by Dr. George Crozat. He restored Houmas House to its 1840 grandeur as the “Crown Jewel of Louisiana's River Road”.
