Geocache Description:

Micro cache, hidden on the territory of Mini-Yugoslavia.

Mini-Yugoslavia, 4th Yugoslavia or the “Yugoland” can be found in Subotica. It was founded by Blaško Gabric in February 2003. The territory represents the territory of the second Yugoslavia; during the era of Tito (e.g. the small artificial hill illustrates the Triglav, the highest peak in Yugoslavia). The information tables introduce facts about the country at that time. There is also a small museum.
Why it is called the fourth Yugoslavia? The first one (the kingdom) existed between the two world wars. The second one was founded during the Second World War and ended in the early ‘90s. The third one was founded in 1992 and ended in 2003 when the country took the name Serbia-Montenegro. Therefore the founder founded the forth Yugoslavia in February 2003 in order not to be lost Yugoslavia forever.
The most important reason why Yugoland was founded is the Yugo-nostalgia. It was possible to travel or even move abroad (it was not possible for the citizens of other countries socialist counties, and later it was very hard also for Yugoslav people due to the introduced visa regime), the living standard was relatively high today the value of the wages are fragment of those that time, furthermore, most of the companies have delay in paying the wages), everybody had working place (today the number of working places are about half of the number it was in the ‘70s, ‘80s, i.e. the unemployment rate is very high). Due to the wars, the embargo, the hyperinflation, the corruption, the dictatorship etc. people became poor.
Yugo-nostalgic people remember on various Yugoslav holydays in Yugoland, especial 1st May (day of the workers), 25th May (day of the youth, the official birthday of Tito) and 29th November (the day of the republic).
Yugoland is about to introduce only the positive things, and gives nothing about the negative ones (anyway, this is how nostalgia “works”). But there were several serious problems as well: the so many killed innocent people at the end of WW2; people tortured at Goli Otok (the “Gulag of Yugoslavia”); indeed it was a communist dictatorship.
The cache is located on a private territory. The inhabitants are aware of it. It can be visited for free. It is possible to become “citizen” of the “country” with paying about 2.5 Euro fee.
