This is a little late for Halloween, but spooky stories are still in season and we have thought for a while this one deserved a cache. The children of the neighborhood of Garfield will tell you that they have been taught to stay out of the woods behind Fort Pitt School... because the Green Lady lives there and will get you...
We thought about hiding the cache in the woods themselves, at the bottom of the stairwell that leads down from the ballfield. But when we saw that area, well, we feared that the Green Lady might get us. So instead, the cache is hidden just down the hill from a partly paved trail. The terrain is level until you get close to the cache, with a bit of steep slope leading to the hide itself, which is just on the edge of the Green Lady's woods. The terrain could get treacherous in the winter. At this time of year, the trail gives some nice views of the leaves and trees.
Although the cache may appear to be closest to Columbo Street or Schenley Avenue, we recommend parking near Fort Pitt School on Hillcrest rather than approaching from Columbo or Schenley, unless you want an uphill bushwhacking experience. Original container was a small which was a birthday gift to caching_clayton from members of the Johnstown-Altoona Geocachers Association at "WWFM VIII: Caching_Clayton's Birthday Bonanza!" (GC2WHBR). Feb 2024, you now seek a pill bottle. BYOP. Please do use stealth and rehide it well. And while you search... beware the Green Lady!
