Rittner Zahnradbahn
DEUTSCH:
Ursprünglich führte die Bahn, ausgehend vom Waltherplatz in Bozen, über den Bahnhof der Südbahn zum Rittnerbahnhof im reinen Adhäsionsbetrieb. Diese Betriebsart wurde dann am Hochplateau von Maria Himmelfahrt nach Klobenstein beibehalten. Zwischen Bozen und Maria Himmelfahrt hingegen wurde auf einer 4,1 km langen Zahnradstrecke, Bauart „Strub“, gefahren. Dafür setzte sich beim Rittner Bahnhof eine Zahnrad-Schublokomotive an den Zugschluss und schob den Zug bei abgeschaltetem Antrieb des Adhäsionstriebwagen bis nach Maria Himmelfahrt. Die talwärts fahrende Lokomotive speiste Strom in das System zurück. (Zahnstangensystem Strub.) Diese Zahnradstrecke hatte eine Steigung von 225 Promille und etwa in der Mitte war eine Betriebsausweiche situiert. Im Anschluss an diese Betriebsausweiche durchfuhr der Zug dann den einzigen, ca. 60m langen Tunnel (km 3,790), mit dem eine Felsnase unterquert wurde. Die Strecke führte hier z.T. an steilen Berghängen und auf durch hohe Steinmauern gestützte Dämme weiter. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit auf der Zahnradstrecke betrug bergwärts 7 km/h.

Dieser Cache führt euch zu den einzigen Tunnel, bitte nach dem Fund nicht weitergehen, weiter unten fängt Privatgrundstück an! Für diese ganzjährige Wanderung benötigt man von Oberbozen rund 2h evtl. etwas mehr.
Man kann entweder eine Rundwanderung machen, indem man in Oberbozen parkt/Seilbahn nach Oberbozen - zum Waypoint 1 an der Kläranlage von Oberbozen vorbei - dann bei Waypoint 2 links in den Wald abbiegt und zum Cache wandert. Entlang der Trasse findet man noch 2 Teile der originalen Schienen. Wenn man vor dem Tunnel den Wanderweg weiter runterläuft kommt man auf den Wanderweg n°6. Über den Wanderweg 6 kommt man wieder nach Oberbozen zurück, man kann entweder nach Oberbozen auf der Straße dann zurücklaufen oder zum St. Jakobs Kirchlein und zu den Erdpyramiden weiter wandern und dann nach Oberbozen über den Themenweg entgegen den Uhrzeiger.. oder wer will kann über die alte Trasse bis zum Cache und von dort den Wanderweg 6 weiter nach Bozen runterwandern.

Bitte den Cache nache dem Fund wieder wie vorgefunden tarnen.

La cremagliera del Renon venne inaugurato il 13 agosto 1907. Il tracciato, di lunghezza pari a 12 chilometri, superava un dislivello totale di 985 m. Consisteva in un tratto tranviario di quasi 1 km che congiungeva piazza Walther, la piazza principale al "centro" di Bolzano, con la stazione a valle del tratto a cremagliera "Bolzano - Ferrovia del Renon", allora facente parte del limitrofo Comune di Dodiciville. Ivi, dietro ogni convoglio diretto sull'altipiano, si poneva la motrice dotata di ruota dentata che spingeva il treno sulla ripida salita alla velocità massima di 7 chilometri orari. Superato il dislivello di 910 metri che separa Rencio da Maria Assunta, la cremagliera terminava e lo "spintore" allontanato (nella direzione opposta questo frenava la discesa).
Sopravvivono il lungo viadotto iniziale - quasi intero -, parallelo alla ripida strada asfaltata che conduce da Rencio a Santa Maddalena, numerosi muri a secco posti a protezione o a sostegno della sede, l'unica galleria del percorso - questa perfettamente conservata - e un lungo tratto a monte di questa fino quasi a Maria Assunta, immerso nel bosco e facilmente individuabile dalla sezione superiore della funivia.

Questa cache vi porta all'unica galleria lunga la vecchia tratta della cremagliera del renon. Per questa cache ti servono 2+ ore dal parcheggio di Soprabolzano/salita con funivia. Questa escursione é fattibile tutto l’anno. Arrivato a Soprabolzano/salito con la Funivia proseguite al waypoint 1. - passate il depuratore fino al waypoint 2 e girate nel bosco sulla sinistra.
Per non ritornare a Soprabolzano sul stesso percorso basta che proseguite il percorso girate prima della galleria giú verso sinistra fino all’incrocio con il sentiero n°6. Questo vi riporta su a Soprabolzano dove potete proseguire fino alla chiesina di St. Giacomo ed alle piramidi di terra o scendete sul percorso 6 fino a Bolzano.

Tenetevi presente al posto finale la localitá e cammuffate bene il cache.

The Ritten Railway is an electric light railway which originally connected Bolzano with the Ritten plateau and today continues to operate on the plateau, connecting the villages located there. In the 19th century the Ritten plateau was a popular place for the people of Bolzano, who liked to pass their weekends there. To connect the two places, it was decided to build a rack railway, and in 1906 the railway engineer Josef Riehl commenced the planning of the line. In April 1907 construction was finished, and the railway was officially inaugurated on 13 August 1907. The full length of the line, from Walterplatz in Bolzano to Klobenstein, was 11.75 km.

This cache leads you to the old tunnel (66mt long) of the Ritten Railway. For this cache you need +2h from the parking place at Oberbozen/arrived by cable car. This hike is all year accessible. To reach the cache please go to waypoint 1 from there pass the sewage plant and go to waypoint 2 once reached turn left into the wood and follow the trail to the cache. Don't go further! On the way to the cache you will find 2 original parts of the rails.
Instead hiking back on the same trail you can keep walking and turn left before reaching the tunnel. You will get on to the hikin trail n° 6 which leads you back to Oberbozen or down to Bozen.
