These arches formed part of the Hume Bridge which spanned the Yass River between 1871 and 1977.
The old Hume Bridge
I remember walking over this bridge when I was young and it would rattle and shake when trucks drove over it.
When it was demolished in 1977, the council promised to save the arches and erect them in the nearby park. 34 years later it has been done! We dont have to dream our dreams away anymore.
Near the arches is an interesting sign giving details of the old bridge (photo in the cache images).
Watch out for the thistles (and maybe spiders) at GZ!
