Located within the grand Dundas Castle estate. A small cache containing a log book, a poem by a locally celebrated poet, and some small gifts. Cache is made from white plastic, and is about the size of a fist.
Parking: Ample car parking available at either the Tesco's carpark in South Queensferry (55.58.59, -3.23.58), or the Main Street in Kirkliston (55.57.22 -3.24.11). The Dundas Castle estate is then accessed via the B800. Closer parking available on the B800 road (55.57.56, -3.24.07), opposite the south drive entrance.
This is a private estate, but the laird, Sir Jack, does not mind quiet ramblers passing through the grounds, provided dogs are kept on a short lead and no one treads on the expertly cut front lawns. Please don't leave any litter and there is absolutely no camping allowed.
Top features to be taken in when passing through the grounds:
- Scenic Loch complete with boat house, unstable bridge and two swans (swan number may vary).
- Curling hut, containing one of Scotland's best curling stone collections.
- Victorian Ice house (does not contain ice).
- Walled gardens, which are locked.
May take a while to get to, but the persistent will be rewarded with a stunning view of not only the scenic loch, but a vista of the Pentland Hills. Best viewed on an August evening set against an azure sky of deepest summer.
