Geocache Description:

At GZ you are looking for a nano.

St. Mary's, is the oldest church in Twickenham, and situated by the river just off the main road on Church Street.

There is a strange contrast between the stone tower, some 600 years old and the nave in the red brick. This was because the original nave, weakened by neglect and the digging of vaults, fell down on the 9th April 1713 and was replaced by a building in the style of the time.
The church is steeped in history with several historical figures being remembered here, including The Countess of Elgin (formerly governess to King George IV's daughter Princess Charlotte, who would have been Queen of England (instead of Queen Victoria) had she not died in 1817.
The oldest memorial in the church is dedicated to Richard Burton, cook to King Henry VI who dies in 1443.
Perhaps the most famous of these are Alexander Pope the poet and landscape gardener who came to live in Twickenham in 1719 and died in 1744.

If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
