The cache is a micro so BYOP. Typical hide. There is no path to the cache, but it is on a mowed grassy area. Also remember to sign the log before you log the find on line!
The National Park Service is taking over control of this site from the Ohio Historical Society. Thank you to OHS for its original conservation of this site. Seip earthworks consists of a set of earthen walls enclosing 120 acres in the shape of two circles and a square astronomically aligned. Most of earth works have been lost due to farming over the last two hundred years.
Scientists are amazed at the similarities between this site and four other sites in the area- Baum, Works East, Liberty Works, and Frankfort Earthworks. Each site had small circle, large circle and square enclosures. The squares were geomettrical accurate and all were the same size, 1080 feet per side.
Seip Mound is the third largest mound the Hopewell built, 240' by 160' by 30' high.
As always when exploring earth works please stay off of the earthworks and out of agricultural field nearby.
Permission to place given by Chief Ranger Rick Perkins.
