Geocache Description:

A small matchstick container. Please bring a pen or pencil. Lots of fallen logs on ground, please watch your step.

One of 11 caches to honour local war veterans on 11-11-11.

Francis (Frank) Batke, son of George Batke, served in World War 1 with a peace keeping corps in Siberia. While he served overseas his father and brothers stepped up helping to maintain his farm.

Upon his return he married Alma Flohr on July 2, 1919 with their wedding dance held nearby at Ferry Point. Their first farming venture was near Heather Brae, but in 1923 they purchased a farm near Ferry Point. They retired to Camrose in 1966 after 45 years of farming. Frank passed in 1968 and is at rest in the Melville Cemetary.
