Geocache Description:

cache is in a theme-related container. This one requires a 250-300 meter stroll down an nice easy trail. You would most likely need to snow shoe in winter.

1974 ( into 75) was my Senior undergrad y, ear at old UPEI and I worked hard occasionally played hard and enjoyed the music in a pretty good musical year. In the world 1974 was the year Hank Aaron became the all time home run leader, Stephen King published his first credited book, Carrie; Nixon resigns finally; Muhammed Ali knocks out George Foreman in Zaire ; and Lucy , the Australiopithecus hominid is discovered in Africa. In music Cher divorces Sonny , Van Halen play their first gig on the Sunset Strip at Gazzarris, Mama Cass dies from a heart attack, and John Lennon joins Elton John onstage at Madison Square Gardens for three songs - the final live performance of his life.
Thirty-six songs got at least a week at # 1 at the top of the Billboard top 100 Pop Chart. There were twenty four songs that had only one week there. Some deserved more and some baffle the mind as to how they ever got that far up any chart. The list starts with the one week in ‘ 74 of the late Jim Croces “ Time in a Bottle .” The Steve Miller band got their first # 1 hit with the kinda strange “ The Joker “. This was followed the very next week by Al Wilsons only ever # 1 “ Show and Tell “ . and the week after that with Ringo Starrs awful “ You’re Sixteen “. Next came a dark day in music as the DISCO-like instrumental “ Love’s Theme by Barry White’s Love Unlimited Orchestra got a week on top. NO GOD NO!!!!!! NOT DISCOOOOOOOO…. Sob sob .
Cher was next with a week win for her “ Dark Lady “ a truly bizarre narrator story-song which involves the murder of a fortune teller ( the dark lady ) and her lover. Cher pretty much shouts this one.. icchhhh. John Denver got a # 1 week out of the sugary “ Sunshine on My Shoulders “ as did one-hit wonders Blue Swede with “ Hooked on a Feeling “ . Elton John got a pretty much courtesy week for his better-seen-then-just-heard show stopper “ Bennie and the Jets” . Ditto Paul McCartney and Wings for the slightly better “ Band on the Run “ . Gordon Lightfoot got a crossover folk-country song to # 1 for 7 days with “ Sundown “ . It’s said to be about Gords then girlfriend, Cathy Smith,,, who would become (in)famous in John Belushis death. Another one-hit one week wonder was The Hues Corporation and “ Rock the Boat “. And still another was Paper lace with “ The Night Chicago Died “ Roberta Flack got her third # 1 hit with a week “ Feel Like Making Love “. I like Eric Clapton… mostly but ah well.. He got a # 1 with “ I Shot the Sherrif. “ period. Deep breath . Move on. The seemingly endless one week # 1;s also include Barry Whites supercool “ Can’t get Enough of Your Love Babe “ , Andy Kim and “ Rock me Gently “ . Dionne Warwick and the Spinners with
“ Then Came You “ , Stevie Wonder and “ You Haven’t Done Nothing “ , as well as Bachman-Turner overdrive and the rocking “ You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet “ .
The next one week # 1 of the year was there from November 16 to 23 . It was John Lennon first and only solo # 1 in America ( he was the last Beatle to do it ) during his lifetime . It was “ Whatever gets You Through the Night. “
The final one week winners were the final two weeks of the year . They were Harry Chapins only ever # 1, the folk song “ Cats in The Cradle “ and Helen Reddys fifth and final # 1, the strange “ Angie Baby “ .
Nine songs manage two weeks at the peak of the Billboard Chart . In this group is
“ The Way We Were “ , the movie title track for Barbara Streisand ; the first true disco 3 1 , TSOP(the Sound of Philadelphia) a studio instrumental by MFSB and the Three Degrees ( no you will never hear of them again) ; Grand Funk Railroad with “ The Loco-motion” ; the awful “ Billy, Don’t be a Hero “ by Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods; George McCrae with the pure disco “ Rock Your Baby “ and John Denver with “ Annies Song “ . The final three to get the fortnight at # 1 were Olivia Newton John and her Grammy winning “ I Honestly Love You “ ; Billy Swans only ever # 1 , “ I can Help “ and finally the novelty disco song “ Kung Fu Fighting “ for one-hit wonder Carl Douglas .
Three songs had three weeks each at the top and those were the longest of the year so I guess they ‘ won’ the year. Frankly I don’t like any of them.. loathing one of them.
The first and worst was the “ Seasons in the Sun “ by Terry Jacks , a song so bad it regularly places first or close to in polls of ‘ worst EVER songs . I agree.
The second to get three weeks was the dipsy stupid funny-once but only once “ The Streak “ by Ray Stevens . The final song to do the triple week trick is a horrible song that inspired outrage from feminists , Paul Anka’s “ Having My Baby ‘ . This song too regularly wins ‘ worst ever song ‘ polls . So basically the three most successful songs of 1974 ALL sucked ! brace yourself .. 1975 and the real disco era is coming next.
