Geocache Description:

A cache hidden for 11-11-11 to commemorate local war veterans.

An ammo can hide. Watch your footing.

William Kennedy, son of John & Melinda, was called Mars from a young age. The family came from Ontario via Michigan in 1903, farming in the Coal Valley district.

On June 15, 1916, Mars enlisted in the army to serve overseas. He landed in France on February 2, 1917. In his last letter home he wrote: "I don't know what is wrong with me, but since I came back this time I am always hungry. It must be the open air life that has given me such an appetite. Don't know how much I would give for a box of home-made eats almost any evening before I go to bed. We get supper at 4:30 and by bedtime we are ready for another meal." His mother was noted as a marvelous cook.

Unfortunatly Mars was killed in action on September 27, 1918 the day before his 22nd birthday.
