This cache and its companion are placed here in Pioneer Park as my way of remembering two assets of the park that are now gone but were a part of my children's experiences growing up in Deerfield Beach.
One of the many ill effects of Hurricane Wilma in 2005 was the destruction of beautiful banyan tree that was the very epicenter, the anchor, of Pioneer Park. The tree stood where the playground now stands, and although the park is home to a new generation of kids on the playground and the ballfields, I feel blessed to have been here with my kids when this gentle giant of a tree graced the grounds.
