Pioneer Remembrance 2 Traditional Cache

This cache and its companion are placed here in Pioneer Park as my
way of remembering two assets of the park that are now gone but
were a part of my children's experiences growing up in Deerfield
Beach.
The roller hockey boom hit Florida with a fury around the turn of
the century and then ebbed and nearly disappeared. What has
disappeared from Pioneer Park is the outdoor roller hockey rink
that for a couple of years was home to some of the best players in
Broward County. The rink was demolished about a year ago and had a
life span of less than a decade. This cache is a small tribute to
the young men and women who skated on these grounds and gave their
all for a sport they loved, a sport once as hot as the summer
evenings on which they played but now, like this rink, mostly a
memory.
