This mural was made possible through a cooperative partnership
between DC Commision of the Arts and Humanities, DC Department of
Public Works, and the DC City Councils Committee on Public
Works.
Ann Cameron Siegal for The Washington Post writes:
The proud image of a graduate seems fitting for this
mural at Fairmont Street and Georgia Avenue NW, across from Howard
University and Benjamin Banneker High School. The work literally
turns a corner, and images of an older man playing the trumpet and
a young girl strumming a guitar pay homage to the musical heritage
of this neighborhood, which was home to Marvin Gaye and Duke
Ellington.
Bonus: A quick walk around the corner up Georgia Avenue is
another large mural on the side of the Sankofa Video and Books
store
Due to urban alley placement, coords are approximate; once you
see the mural you'll need to rely on your geosense more than your
GPS.
Please remember to replace just as found, and don't forget your
writing utensil -- enjoy!
