Obec Pecnov se nachází v podhurí Šumavy nedaleko Boubína, na polovine cesty mezi dvemi nejvetšími mesty v okrese - Prachaticemi a Vimperkem a to shodne 10km.
Jako samostatná obec, nejmenší na okrese, vznikla v roce 1990 s devíticlenným zastupitelstvem, které se za pusobení obce témer nezmenilo. Za dobu fungování obce se udelal kus dobré práce a to predevším zásluhou našeho starosty, zastupitelstva, ale i všech obcanu obce.

HISTORIE
K založení obce Pecnov došlo v 15. století a v písemných pramenech se objevuje v roce 1435. V roce 1569 patrila obec k panství Vlachova Brezí. V roce 1654 se užíval název Pecnovo. Tehdy zde žilo celkem šest obyvatel ve dvou chalupách (Paškovská a Krejcovská). V roce 1697 a 1703 obec dvakrát vyhorela, zbylo jen jedno stavení. Název se menil hned nekolikrát. V roce 1676 se uvádí Pecínov, v roce 1720 nemecký tvar Peitschnau, v roce 1790 Bietschnau a v roce 1840 Pícnov. Úredne byl název upraven v roce 1854 na Píšnov a teprve od roku 1903 se zacal používat tvar Pecnov. V roce 1930 bylo pri scítání obyvatelstva v obci zjišteno 139 osob, které bydlely ve 28 domech.
Nejstarší písemná zpráva o existenci obce Pecnov se zachovala z roku 1435. V roce 1879 byl v obci nejvetší požár, kdy vyhorelo 19 domu. V roce 1848 zažili obyvatelé Pecnova nejvetší povoden. Nejsilnejší boure se nad obcí prehnala v roce 1920. Za patnáct minut jejího besnení došlo ke dvema smrtelným zranením. Boure mela takovou sílu, že povalila i mnoho topolu, které byly dominantou kolem cesty. Nejvíce lidí, a to 178, žilo v Pecnove za první republiky. Mezi nejzáhadnejší událost v obci je považována tragická príhoda v místní kaplicce. Od roku 1864 se zde totiž zvonilo proti bource. Toto zvonení bylo nápadem Vojtecha Soumara, který byl práve pri jednom takovém zvonení, v kaplicce roku 1897, zasažen bleskem.

The village of Pecnov is located at the foothills of Šumava, not far from Boubín, in the exact half way between the two largest cities of the district – Prachatice and Vimperk.
As an independent village – the smallest one in the district – was established in 1990 with a 9-members local authority which until today barely changed. Thanks to the collective effort of mayor, local authority and all inhabitants of the village, great amount of work was done since 1990.

HISTORY
The village of Pecnov was established in the 15th century and the first written mention dates to 1435. In 1569 the village belonged to dominion of Vlachovo Brezí and in 1654 was using the name of Pecnovo. At that time there were 6 inhabitants in 2 cottages (families Paškovská and Krejcovská). In 1697 and in 1703 the village burned down twice, only one house remained. The name of the village changed couple of times – in 1676 Pecínov, in 1720 a German name Peitschnau, in 1790 Bietschnau, and in 1840 Pícnov. In 1854 the name was officially changed to Píšnov and only since 1903 the name Pecnov started to be used. The 1930 village census revealed 139 inhabitants living in 28 houses.
The oldest written mention about the existence of Pecnov dates back to 1435. In 1879 the village suffered conflagration and 19 houses burned down. In 1848 the citizens of Pecnov experienced the largest flood of its history. In 1920 the village suffered a storm rage. During the 15 minutes of the storm two fatal injuries occurred. The storm was so strong, it even brought down many poplar trees which were dominant feature along the road. The most people to live in Pecnov was during the First Republic – a total of 178. The most mysterious event of the village is considered a tragic accident in the local chapel. Starting in 1864 it was ring in the chapel as a warning for an upcoming storm. This idea came from Vojtech Soumar who – during one such ringing – was struck by the lightning in 1897.
