Geocache Description:

Camo'd spice container. EZ P & G off U.S. 285. This cache is a 2 1/2 mile 'offset' from the Tapia Cemetery. This is to avoid trespassing on private ranch land and raising undue attention

Located off of a private road, the Tapia Cemetery is the final resting place of early homesteaders, pioneers and ranchers, and is still in use. This beautiful cemetery is near the old Tapia stone church, both still in use by the various families of the area. Remains of the town site are evident nearby.

Tapia in Spanish means rock wall, which is very appropriate here. Juan de Tapia, according to the historians, was in New Mexico in 1607 and some of his descendants are believed to have settled here.

Located in the southwest corner of San Miguel County, the Tapia post office was operational from 1927 to 1939. The residents now get their mail out of the Stanley rural route. Mesa de Tapias is to the southwest of here.

This "Spirit" cache is placed in hopes of paying respect to the pioneer Tapia ancestors having 'gone' on before us, and, possibly picking up a bit of history of the area.
