Geocache Description:

Second in the series of BARS, BEER JOINTS, and HONKY TONKS
You’ll be looking for a gallon plastic jar well camoed in shallow impression and covered with straw.

The Joy Hill Bar seemed to move from time to time and change owners just as often. I can remember two different locations going back into the late 1950’s myself. It‘s this writers opinion this is the site of the original Joy Hill Bar. The side walk and brick steps can still be seen under the big oak tree 50 foot north of the cache. This little back road was once highway US-165 that snaked through the many small settlements like Clarks and Kelly. These being sawmill towns owned by big timber companies, alcohol was not sold in town. As any business owner will tell you “It’s Location Location Location. Almost half way between Clarks and Kelly and on the major north south road made it an ideal spot. The hills along this road are long shallow slopes except this one little ridge where one can get that roller coaster effect or a little joy if taken at forty miles an hour or more. Turn on the neon lights, crank up the juke box, hold my beer and watch this, and there you have it, Joy Hill Bar. Now you’re “Rednecken.”
In the late 40’s highway 165 was straightened out, by passing the towns of Kelly and Clarks, so the bar moved out on the new road. At one time Clarks was the most populated town in Caldwell Parish but by the late 50’s and early 60,s the mills had closed and the towns all but dried up. So had the bar business. The last location of the bar was about one half mile north of this site and right on the edge of the right a way of the new four lanes. Joy Hill Bar was just one of many such local establishments in our area that beamed in the glow of A Neon Rainbow.
Don’t forget what the Fatman and Robin said, “If it crawls, walks, runs, flies, bites, poisons, stings, or stinks, it’s here. Dress accordingly and welcome to Louisiana.
