Radvanka The cache is hidden in the Radvanka Cemetery outside the ruins of a 13th Century rotunda church.
From the parking lot, walk up to the church and then up to the cemetery on the left side of the church. The village of Radvanka was first settled in the 8th Century by White Croats. Remains of their homes and houseware have been discovered in the region. Older relics from the Musterskoyi Culture (end of the Paleolithic Era) were discovered during excavations in 1964. Radvanka was first mentioned in Roman documents in 1363 as Raduanh. Later it was recorded as Radovanh (1415). A census of 1839 recorded that 476 residents lived in the village made up of Jews (29%), Greek Catholics (27%), Roman Catholics (26%), and Protestants (18%). The village was incorporated into Uzhgorod in 1950. The 17th Century Hungarian poet Istvan Dyendyeshi (1629-1704) was born in this village and a plaque commemorates this event on the Baroque house where he was born. Enjoy walking through the old cemetery. Towards the back is what seems to be an open field. A closer inspection reveals that it is the vandalized Jewish section of the cemetery probably destroyed during the Axis Occupation. Stroll all the way to the back of the cemetery for an overlook where you can see Lake Karyer below. It is not a real lake but was once a Soviet rock quarry that filled up overnight 30 years ago leaving all the mining equipment at the bottom of the lake. I have given the coordinates to the dirt road that leads to the lake if you want to go for a swim. You can walk down to the lake by using a trail that heads off to the right.
