The Bongs- River Lug Traditional Cache
smurphys: Thanks to fellow cachers for bringing the problem with this to my attention ( via e-mail and cache page). Have been to check and its nowhere to be seen, can't even find any geo-debris. Have decided to archive as I'm planning a series on this site.

The Bongs is a huge area of grassland which was, long before reclaimation, disected by a railway line running parallel with a brook. Now after extensive work by Halton Borough Council it is a pleasant area enjoyed by cyclists and dog walkers. The Widnes by pass (A565) now follows the route of the old rail line.
Some locals recall the brook as being known as the River Lug, although in reality it is likely to have been the effluent outfall from Peter Spence chemicals.
During the 40's and 50's, it was not unknown to see the American airmen from the Burtonwood air base, riding their motor cycles across the Bongs, riding down the 'spoon' and jumping the 'River Lug'.
The first ever golf course in Widnes was situated here, before moving to Hough Green, ( the original club house still stands where Hough Green gentlemans' club is today )and eventually moved to its present site on Highfield Road.
The actual cache is a black 35mm film cannister with just a log and small badge for FTF. Please bring your own pen/pencil. There are several pedestrian access points to the area, these are situated at; Halton View Road where there is a small car park (long walk to GZ);
Lytham Rd (involves long walk over A565 on footbridge);
Barnes Road (two access points with on street parking)
and the nearest to GZ at Bishops Way where there is also on street parking. Not suitable for wheelchairs/buggys unfortunately at GZ, although some areas are tarmac and can be accessed.
