Dieser Cache ist Teil einer Serie von 11 Caches die anläßlich des
GC34NJY 11.11.11 Multi-Events in Bitburg,Deutschland
am 11.November 2011 gelegt wurden .Es soll damit an die interessante Geschichte der ehemaligen US Air Force Airbase Bitburg erinnert werden ,die hier von 1952 -1994 beheimatet war.

on November 11th 2011 to highlight the interesting history of the US Air Force's Bitburg Air Base that occupied this area from 1952-1994.

le 11 novembre 2011 pour mettre en évidence l'histoire intéressante de la base aérienne de la US Air Force, qui occupait ce terrain de 1952 à 1994.

Under contract with the United States Air Force, the French Army began construction of what would become Bitburg Air Base in Western Germany's Eifel Mountains in Rheinland-Pfalz in early 1951. Located in the French zone of occupation, the air base was situated on farm land that had been a Wehrmacht tank staging and supply area for the Battle of the Bulge in early 1944.

The nice little piece of history of Bitburg Airbase was that Buzz Aldrin, the second man on the moon, served as a Flight commander for the 22nd TFS in the 1950s and flew F-100 Super Sabers. Shortly after leaving Bitburg he started with NASA training for the moon landing. Apollo 11 landed on the moon July 20, 1969

The cache’ is located in an emergency attack bomb shelter behind the base HQ (Headquarters) and is a small cache’ but, contains many treasures to include FTF and STF prizes…
