JamGuys' Cold Weather Treasure Series III: #4 Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

JamGuys: This cache was placed in a really lovely spot that was probably submerged under 10 feet of water when Arcadia Lake overflowed its banks recently. Only a select few ever made it this far and you are all heroes in my estimation. Thanks for playing!

THE LOST CIVILIZATION OF ARCADIA LAKE

(Edmond Sun; 3/3/12, 4:30 p.m.) The sudden death of renowned archaeologist, Professor Heebie Clouless, has rocked Edmond's burgeoning scientific community. Recently honored for a lifetime of ambiguous achievement, Professor Clouless was most famous for his discovery of a previously unknown civilization that once occupied the shores of present day Arcadia Lake. Studies performed in the field by Clouless and his colleagues at East-South-East Central Oklahoma State University indicate that these ancient Arcadians lived in small family units, possessed a unique language, and were masters of mathematics and geometry. Not much else is known of their culture but analysis of charred bone fragments retrieved from fire pits at the site indicates that their diet consisted mainly of a species of crimson herring that once inhabited the lake. According to Clouless (unpublished data), this piscine diet was supplemented in the winter by the meat of the migratory wild Edmond goose, a flightless bird which the Arcadians chased and hunted to extinction. Unconfirmed reports suggest that Clouless was on the verge of another major discovery when he was found dead at home in his study clutching an old photograph in his left hand and an empty bottle of 1999 Dom Perignon champagne in his right. Local investigators have ruled out foul play.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
SERIES: This is the fourth and final puzzle cache in JamGuys' Cold Weather Treasure Series III although "Cold Weather" was probably a bit of a misnomer this year. As ever, as many as three clues for solving the puzzle will be released on consecutive Friday nights between 8 and 9 p.m. but ONLY after FTF honors have been claimed. Since this IS the last puzzle in the series and the Bonus Cache is also up for grabs, I've decided to spice things up a bit and dispense with the co-ordinate checker until the FTF race is over. Please be advised that this series is especially designed for those of you who enjoy both a mental and a physical challenge. Here are the first three entries in the series:

JamGuys' Cold Weather Treasure Series III: #1 - Space Rock!
JamGuys' Cold Weather Treasure Series III: #2 - The Case of the Deadly Symbols
JamGuys' Cold Weather Treasure Series III: #3 - The Secret Manuscript

SAFETY: When setting out on the hunt, please do yourself a favor and let someone know where you're going as the area where the cache is located is quite desolate. Dress for the weather, ensure that your cell phone is charged, pack fresh batteries for your GPSr, and carry something to eat and drink in case you become disoriented or lost.

CACHE: The cache for this puzzle is a small ammo can containing an eclectic assortment of hand-selected items for the entire family. The First to Find prize will celebrate your mastery of the puzzle cache and there are prizes for STF and TTF as well. Of course, the ultimate payoff for finding this cache will be obtaining the final part of the co-ords for the Bonus Cache!

BONUS CACHE: The Bonus Cache is a special reward for those folks who complete all four caches in the series and contains prizes for the first SIX individual cachers or teams to arrive. The prizes are derived from a complete set of six 2011 Compass Rose geocoins, INCLUDING the Limited Edition antique bronze High Noon version for the FTF! Just be sure to obtain the partial bonus cache co-ords (released in the form A.C, B.D) located on the inside cover of the logbooks for the first four caches.
