dartymoor: Three DNFs on an easy find, most likely it's gone.

If it was a better spot I'd go out and replace it yet again, but only one Fave in 135 finds suggest it's not the most valued cache so best to let it go.

Lost and Forgotten of Bovey...

When the Bovey Tracey bypass was constructed in 1985 it made a huge impact to the little town. Previously all the southern traffic to Lustleigh, Mortonhampstead, Chagford etc passed through the heavily congested streets. The articulated lorries of Thompson and Sons especially caused mayhem as they went to and from their base at Morton.

Once the bypass opened people could actually cross the street in Bovey!

The cache is placed by a short stretch of orphaned road, now private property but the old road can clearly be seen through the gate while the bypass whizzes by next to it. Makes me a little bit sad to see something not fulfilling its purpose any longer, but there's no doubt the bypass made a huge improvement to Bovey's quality of life.

Bovey's a nice place to shop, and if you're passing the Fire Station roundabout, marvel at the controversial "Granite Jenga" build to celebrate the nearby granite tramway which bought the granite down from Haytor's Quarries for so many of London's fine buildings.

You can park very close and there is no need to enter any private property or go beyond the gate. Mind the barbed wire!
