West-end link added to Hamilton's cycling network A trail opened Nov 1,2011 in the west end, providing both safer options for cyclists and the vision of a future cycling network spread across town. The 1.8-kilometre trail, a $1.95-million project that’s part of the city’s Shifting Gears Cycling Plan, starts just west of Leland Street, crosses over the 403 and connect to Studholme Road by Chedoke Golf Course. The 900 metres of the trail west of Stroud Road was bought from CPR for $725,000. The other half of the land was leased for 20 years from the railway, with the city paying the entire lease payment of $150,000. The trail will run beside but be separated from a section of the track. A CPR spokesperson, said they “normally don’t want to run a trail beside a working track for safety precautions,” however in this instance the assessment showed that it was all right since it was mainly a storage yard. This section of the Bike Path runs between homes. Congratulations to Buttons and Beaux on FTF
