Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the West Texas Reviewer.

Geocache Description:

Baines Park is located at 4,530 feet (1,381 meters) above sea level. A hotel was built on this location in 1908. It was destroyed by fire and a lovely park was built in its place. The park is named after Mr. Baines who built the original hotel.

The Garnett Hotel was built in 1806 by Alpine merchant Ed Garnett. The 18 room Victorian style frame structure soon became a well-known Alpine landmark and was frequented by guests, both military and civilian local and tourist. It was destroyed by fire on May 14, 1943.

In June, 1961, the trustees of the Latin American Community Center donated block 74 to the City of Alpine to address the need for a park on Alpine's south side. Initial construction of the recreational park was completed in 1968-69. The park is named for George W. Baines, former Mayor and City Commissioner of Alpine, longtime banker and city leader.
