Celebrating Canada's 150th birthday, cache by cache, year by year.
1873 saw the province of Prince Edward Island (PEI) join confederation.
It also saw the formation of the North West Mounted Police (NWMP) to police the Northwest Territories. They were going to be called the North West Mounted Rifles or North West Mounted Guns, but those names were dismissed due to U.S. fears of a military buildup. Now, the force is called the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and are highly visible in the parade dress red tunics.
