Geocache Description:

This is my first cache hide, which I have placed here in memory of my late partner, Nick. I hope you like and enjoy this park as much as I do! Cockshott Point is a lovely National Trust owned open meadow park, with trees and benches, where you can sit with a view over Lake Windemere and Belle Island. In 1927, Beatrix Potter produced 50 drawings, which she then sold to fund the purchase of this land to prevent development there, and to provide the public with lakeside access. She later donated it to the National Trust. Who was Nick? Nick was my partner of almost 4 years. Sadly at the age of 30 he was tragically taken from us, following a car accident, in November 2010. Nick loved the Lake District and had planned to climb all 214 (as selected by Wainwright) mountains in his lifetime. He was a member of the National Trust, so family and friends have since made donations in Nick’s memory to the Trust and specifically towards the planting of 4 oak trees at Cockshott Point. If you look around, you can spot these with their black guards that depict a number of birds. Since these were planted I have obtained permission from the National Trust to place a cache here. I placed this cache on 1st the anniversary of Nick’s passing to share with you his love of the Lake District and the location of the tree’s planted in his memory, and so that all those who knew him can come here and take a moment to remember him. Nick was deeply committed to his family and the people he called friends. We are all now at a loss without him but the strength and determination that he showed in knowing what he wanted and making it happen should remind us that it is possible to overcome challenges, and live the life that you have. The trees will outlive our lifetimes but I hope they will remain here for many years to come and to remind us all. Please hide the cache as well as you can when you return it, to make sure it is not found by accident. Please also look after the area, and leave no trace of your visit. Thanks and happy caching!
