Killary Harbour/An Caoláire Rua is a remarkable sea inlet. It
has been described as Ireland's only true fjord that runs for 16
kilometres between County Mayo's Mweelrea Mountain to the north and
County Galway's Maamturk Mountains to the south.
The coastal walk on the southern side of Killary Harbour follows
an old famine road which is part of the long distance waymarked
trail called the Connemara Way/Slí Chonamara.
At the parking location you will find space for one or two cars,
please don't block the entrances. Proper waterproof boots are
recommended as the path can get very muddy in the middle section.
The walk from the parking location to the trail exit at Rosroe Quay
and back is ca. 12 km.
Don't forget to bring your camera ;-)
