Geocache Description:

The Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation Series

Placed with the kind permission of Essex Waterways. Please refer to the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation (GC37P3P) cache for more information on this walk along the canal.

The Beth Chatto Gardens are an informal collection of ecological gardens created by plantswoman Beth Chatto in 1960 from the gravel soil and bogs of the disused fruit farm belonging to her husband Andrew Chatto. The gardens are located in the village of Elmstead Market 6 miles east of Colchester in Essex, England.

Covering 6 acres, these beautiful gardens have become world famous. Original problem areas have been transformed by the use of plants suited to the conditions into gravel, water and woodland gardens. The gardens are suitable for people with disabilities.
