Geocache Description:

The fourth of a series of caches along HWY 89 South of Meyers. The cache is a small, camo'd container. Park in the pull out and watch for traffic. Cache may be hard to access in the winter.

Rene Descartes is better known for being a philosopher than a mathematician. His statement “I think, therefore I am” is often quoted. But his impact on mathematics was huge. His primary area of influence was in analytic geometry. In fact, the rectangular coordinate system used by mathematicians is called the Cartesian coordinate system.

Now one of my favorite jokes to use in class: Rene Descartes is hanging out at the bar enjoying the evening. Closing time approaches so the bartender comes up and says “How about another beer, Rene?” Descartes replies “I think not”, and promptly disappears.
