Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Geocache Description:

Our first multi as a short walk around Pontefract town centre, this cache is a nano so you will need to bring your own pen or pencil. This cache is located in a busy and popular town centre so stealth is essential. This has been created as part of a series with a play on words on The Beatles songs so please don’t expect any marvelous views, although some of the architecture can be interesting.

Welcome to the next in our new series combining the 2 greatest loves of Mrs DB (except Mr and Little DB of course), started with The Magical Mystery Tour which we hope will start you on your own magical tour of Knottingley and the surrounding area. My love of The Beatles and their music started many years ago whilst studying GCSE Music. Part of the qualification required studying some set pieces of music for which the Teacher had picked the option of 4 tracks from The Beatles Magical Mystery Tour album; Strawberry Field Forever, Penny Lane, The Fool on the Hill, and Hello, Goodbye.

The Beatles, Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), John Lennon (rhythms guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and eventually Ringo Starr (drums, vocals) I'm sure need no introduction as being such a popular and probably the most covered rock band in the world, and from our very own Liverpool,UK. Rooted in Skiffle and later working in many genres ranging from pop ballads to psychedelic rock, often incorporating classical and other elements to eventually develop a sound that combined rhythm and blues, and a bit of country and western. A full complete (and I believe fascinating) history of the group can be found at: (visit link)

Yesterday was sung and written by Paul McCartney, but credited to Lennon/McCartney. Yesterday is a melancholy acoustic guitar ballad about a break-up. The song was originally only ever recorded for the Help album. It was the first official recording by The Beatles that relied upon a performance by a single member of the band, Paul McCartney who was accompanied by a string quartet. The final recording was so different from other works by The Beatles that the other three band members vetoed the release of the song as a single in the United Kingdom. However, it was issued as a single here in 1976.

The song remains popular as the most covered song of all time with over 1600 versions. Yesterday was voted the best song of the 20th century in a 1999 BBC Radio 2 poll of music experts and listeners and in 2000, it was voted the #1 Pop song of all time by MTV and Rolling Stone magazine. In 1997, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Broadcast Music Incorporated (BMI) asserts that it was performed over seven million times in the 20th century alone.

The cache is not at the above location, the above co-ordinates will take you to one of the few free parking areas and a bridge over the dual carridgeway. To find it you will need to answer the questions below to complete the co-ordinates N53 41.ABC W001 18.XYZ and find the location.

1. at N53 41.525 W001 18.868, In what year did Charles Watson design this building? Y = the third number of the year

This multi is intended to take you on a brief historical tour of Pontefract taking in just some of the blue plaques around the town centre. There are several car parking areas for you to choose from. I've not recommended this for disabled as I think the actual retrieval of the cache it self may be difficult but please let me know if you know different.
