Furlong-ago Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

moor to sea: Unfortunately a lot of hassle to remake the container cover and there is nowhere practical to hide a plain container safely.
Thanks for all the finds and favourite points [8D]

Geocache Description:

An easy riverside walk

This cache is set along the Dartington , Totnes river side footpath behind the Babbage rd ind estate.

Long before all the modern units were built the area had a Race course,Bull market, golf course and the Steamer Quay train branch line.

There is also the plinth remains of a WW2 Bailey bridge which was built by the U.S 1253rd engineers to transport heavy vehicles across the Dart and down to the south coast.
It was demolished a few years after the war.No pictures remain.
The plinth is about 300ft east of the cache.

The Steamer quay goods branch line passed by what is now Borough park, the nearby supermarket and the Plains.
This was ripped up in 1965.

The race course was on what is now the Babbage rd ind estate but also crossed the river and and looped up past the

Bourtons on the Newton rd.
The races last ran in 1939

There are some old picture scans in the cache.

The cache is fairly well disguised and is right next to the path so no need to leave it.
Small lock&lock box in a bigger cover.
There are many access points to the path , for a longer walk park at Swallowfields.

From parking walk to start of Brutus bridge for the start of the path.
Or walk down the end of Wills Rd (3rd right)on the Ind est.
