Geocache Description:

The Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation Series

Placed with the kind permission of Essex Waterways. Please refer to the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation (GC37P3P) cache for more information on this walk along the canal.

New Hall Vineyard have over 65 hectares of vines and is one of the oldest and largest in the country. It was first established by the Greenwood family, in the Essex village of Purleigh, back in 1969. The grape vines grown at New Hall were carefully selected and have been planted only 12m to 24m above sea level, on well-sheltered, southern facing slopes of a shallow valley. Over the years this site has proven itself to be an almost ideal place, for the growing of vines in England, producing, above average crops of high quality grapes with naturally high sugars, each year.
