North Ronneby airport.
”Clearad to land”.
Sitting in cockpit as pilot in command, this is what you want to hear on final approach, some 250-300 meter overhead this position. It´s around 2000 meters to touchdown at the 2500 meters asphalt on Ronneby Airport. Your goal on this particular y flight.
Everything is set up for touch down, undercarriage is out, flaps is full, speed stabilized on some 220 km/hr, depending on what plane you are riding. “Final approach checklist completed” you hear from copilot. You have one hand on the wheel and one on the throttles, ready to give full power if runway is not in your window in some 30 seconds, and give the command “Pull up”. Your pulse is up to 150 – 160, same as you have in rather fast run!
That’s in bad weather , with visibility down to only some hundreds meters and cloud base around 50 meters.
This last half-minute in a bad weather landing, is a real tough item. The rest of a flight is “Charley”, the autopilot doing the job!
In perfect weather, you have seen the runway all the way from Kosta. And you are relaxed all the way to touch down, then your wheels is spinning up from still-standing to 150+ ,touchdown-speed, in fraction of a second!
Coffeepot is waiting.
