Could it be the black box of "KUAKA"??
On 5 February 1943, while on a scheduled flight from Dunedin to Christchurch and Wellington, "Kuaka" crash-landed on Flagstaff Hill in very poor visibility thanks to thick fog just after leaving Taieri aerodrome. There were no injuries to passengers and crew and they were able to walk out. Even the plane was recovered, rebuilt and returned to service! (information obtained from "Dunedin Tracks and Trails" by Antony Hamel and www.airmailsnz.com) The cache takes you to the approximate site of the crash. It is hidden within 3m of the track. When placed, the contents were plane-themed, with a couple of toy planes and some useful things for longer flights. Thanks to daywalk for the container!
