Geocache Description:

Battleground Lake State Park

This is a beautiful, round, volcanic crater lake surrounded by tall trees. In this 280 acre park there are 10 miles of hiking trails and bike trails, 5 miles of horse trails. In addition, there are picnic, play and camping areas. Park in the main parking lot at the state park. There may be fee. It seems like fees come and go at these parks.

You can also park on a side road for free at 45.47.962, 122.30.036, then walk through the horse parking area, across the field and down the trail. This is a more difficult way to get to the cache. It is best to start at the swimming area and follow the lower trail around.

Tree cover will mess with your GPS especially on a cloudy day. Look for a very large fire damaged tree about 30 feet uphill from the lowest trail. It is a steep scramble to this tree but there is a trail. The cache is not at the tree. Stand at the tree and look up the hill and you will see a likely spot not too far away.

The cache is a 50 Cal. ammo can with lot of room for goodies.
