St. John the Evangelist Catholic Parish was founded in 1843.

St. John’s of Fenton is a beautiful church rich in history. The original structure has been immaculately maintained and is one of Fenton’s historical gems. The grounds are home to the annual Applefest which will celebrate its 40th year in 2012.

The first recorded baptism was on Sunday, March 19, 1843. In the beginning, a priest traveled on horseback to provide services to people in this community, celebrating Mass in parishioner’s homes.
In June of 1868 construction of the first church began. The rectory was built in 1871, allowing the pastor to establish residency here. The old cemetery on the grounds has a first burial recorded in February of 1861. The present church, Romanesque Basilica style, was completed in 1966.
