The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by
many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of
paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have
‘walked’ before
us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities
across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The
cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries,
tombstones and local lore.
This is one of those cemeteries that, through one quirk of
subdivision development or another, has ended up in what became
someone's front yard. Similar sites can be found at TSQ #42: Sarah
Rector Grave and the Winters Cemetery near Buda. Details are very
scarce for this site--in fact, the identities of those laid to rest
here aren't actually recorded online, not that I could find anyway.
The single headstone seemed to imply that several members of a
Conrad family are buried here, but I only snuck a peek at it before
scarpering away, fearful of an angry landowner coming after
me.
The site itself is quite lovely, with an
attractively-rusted wrought iron fence surrounding the spacious
plot in the shade of a large tree. Very lovingly maintained. The
cache is a hundred feet or so away, across a small lane. As always,
any refinements to the listed coordinates are
welcomed.
