Geocache Description:

The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.

There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.

There are 170 interments at this Anglo-German site (not to be confused with the Hispanic cemetery given the same name up north by the Hays County Historical Commission), ranging from 1862 to as recent as 2011. Members of the Bading, Crawford, Merz, Posey, Schuber, Suechting, Stroehmer, Tate, and Weder families, among many others, are to be found here. The Badings were possibly relocated here from the nearby and now almost vacant Bading Cemetery. There are at least two unknown graves (possibly more--look for tell-tale areas of rectangular or oval subsidence), and a fair number of others for which only the name of the decedent is known.

A fence in mild disrepair surrounds this semi-overgrown cemetery. Access is through an gateless entrance. The graves toward the rear seem to be somewhat neglected--there's one large plot that is choked with vegetation and debris. Closer to the front, note the Woodmen of the World headstone. And near the back, there's an actual outhouse. At any rate, as always, any refinements to the listed coordinates are welcomed.
