This small stream is a location that brings back many fond childhood memories. Amazing Lizard assisted in this cache development. Many thanks to Bubbabeernut for the cache container. You are on the Foster farm while caching here. You can walk here from the Special Fred cache or drive down near the stream.
My aunt, Crazy Goat, was a passionate geocacher and an inspirational woman. She passed away in a car accident while geocaching on April 21st, 2012. This cache was originally hers, but now my family and I have taken over maintaining it. By visiting this cache, you are honoring her memory.
Wolf Lick Run is designated as a wild propagating trout stream by the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. That was not the case 40+ years ago.
When my sisters and I were little this was a stocked trout stream. On opening day of a long anticipated season our dad would line the three of us up on the cement bridge that crosses the stream. With our little rods and push button Zebco reels we couldn't wait to drop our line while dad did the countdown for the opening cast. Poor dad never did a lot of fishing after he started this tradition with his girls. He was always untangling our line, chasing a flopping trout, pulling up a snag or giving lessons on how to properly clean a fresh catch.
If you have a mind to, wet a line while you visit this cache location. Better yet, bring a child and make a memory. It was great for me.
Note that the old bridge is rusted from its moorings and clearly will not last much longer. It will not be surprising if the high waters of the coming spring wash this old Spring Run landmark away.
When visiting in the summer, watch for rattlesnakes, they are not uncommon in this area. On a good day you may encounter some elk or even a bear.
This cache is within the camp safety zone but it might not be a bad plan to wear orange during the hunting season.
