Metal isn’t a genre for everyone. It’s usually played loud and fast with long songs featuring long guitar solos. If you’re trying to avoid incoherent screaming and growling or intentionally provocative bands it can be a daunting task to find the bands you might actually enjoy – much like filtering out “bad” caches.
I’ve already talked about Iron Maiden (GC2H32A), Metallica (GC381GR), Judas Priest (GC381HJ), and AC/DC (GC37PHR). Here are 10 more metal bands I recommend to you.
Blind Guardian is a German metal band formed in the mid-1980s. Their first two albums were speed metal then they shifted into a power metal style. Their lyrics are heavily fantasy-inspired. My favorite albums are “Somewhere Far Beyond” and “Tales From The Twilight World”. Favorite song without a doubt is “Lord Of The Rings”.
Edguy is a German power metal band formed in 1992. They have 9 studio albums. While their lyrics often deal with metaphysical and social themes, they occasionally delve into a few comedic non-serious songs. My favorite album is “Hellfire Club”. Lead singer Tobias Sammet also has a side project: symphonic metal band Avantasia, which is also has some good stuff – try “The Scarecrow”.
Hammerfall is a Swedish power metal band formed in 1993. With 8 studio albums, their lyrics tend toward fantasy and warrior themes. Best album is “Crimson Thunder”. They also have an amazing cover of Raindow’s “Man On The Silver Mountain”.
Kamelot is a symphonic power metal band from Tampa, Florida formed in 1991. They have released 9 studio albums to date. I recommend their album “Epica” in particular for “Lost and Damned” and “Descent of the Archangel”.
Lacuna Coil is Italian gothic metal band with mixed male and female vocals. Try the albums “Comalies” and “Karmacode”.
Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic metal band formed in 1996. Their best and most successfully album was “Once” (2004). Some of my favorite songs are “Wish I Had An Angel”, “Dark Chest Of Wonders”, and “Wishmaster”.
Saxon is probably the third biggest New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) band, after the better known Iron Maiden and Motorhead. They are considered to have peaked with their early albums especially “Wheels Of Steel”, but there are some gems scattered throughout their discography…all 19 studio albums of it! “747 (Strangers In The Night)” is their biggest hit.
Sonata Arctica is a Finnish metal band formed in 1995. Originally playing power metal, they have been shifting toward progressive metal on recent albums. They have 6 studio albums. Try the “Winterheart’s Guild” album, especially the songs “The Cage” and “Victoria’s Secret”.
Symphony X is a progressive metal band from New Jersey formed in 1994. They have released 8 studio albums. Try the albums “The Divine Wings Of Tragedy”, “The Odyssey”, and “Paradise Lost”.
