"The greatest tragedy is not your death / but a life without reason / that your life has no purpose"

"There's more to living than being alive"

Anberlin is an rock band from the Orlando area formed in 2002 by three members of a high school Christian punk band SaGoh 24/7 (an acronym for "Servants After God's Own Heart"). Their new band incorporated a more alternative rock style, though their live performances still reflect a speed punk origin. They have been frequently characterized as a Christian rock band, but while the band's members are all actively religious they do not have overtly religious lyrics nor do they witness during concerts. Lead singer Stephen Christian has explained "I'm not a preacher, I'm an entertainer."

As of January 2012, Anberlin has released five studio albums: "Blueprints For The Black Market", "Never Take Friendship Personal", "Cities", "New Surrender", and "Dark Is The Way, Light Is A Place". A 6th album is planned for summer 2012. They have also released a compilation album called "Lost Songs" featuring a mix of covers, B-sides, demos, acoustic versions, and unused tracks from previous recording sessions.

"Paperthin Hymn" (from "NTFP") was their breakout single and brought them to my attention, but it was "Feel Good Drag" (originally from "NTFP" but rerecorded for "New Surrender") that reached #1 on the US Alternative Rock singles chart.

"Never Take Friendship Personally" is still my favorite Anberlin album. My favorite songs include "Paperthin Hymn", "Breathe", "Burn Out Brighter", "Inevitable", and their excellent cover of New Order's "True Faith" (a single-only release).
