Geocache Description:

This Snap-lock cache is located near Lake Toxaway, NC . Parking is N 35 10.326, W 082 55.621. If you have found Blue Ridge divides, you are eligible to log this one.

This location is another of many Alantic/Gulf of Mexico watershed divides. Located across the road is the site where an ambitious logging flume was started by the Toxaway Lumber Co. around 1912 and plans were to slid and float the logs to the Rosman Railroad siding. Six of the 15 miles of the flume to Rosman were completed. Plans were to dam the nearby Creek and push the water over to the other side of the divide to supply water to operate the flume. The flume was to service 10,000 acres of logging in the Gloucester section. The bursting of the Lake Toxaway dam in 1916 brought work to a halt, as damages affected the financial health of the Toxaway lumber company.
When you face South, the water flows down to the West Fork of the French Broad river. The West Fork joins the Middle and East Fork to make the French Broad, flowing on to Ashville, and near Knoxville joins the Holston, Nolichucky, and Little Tennessee, to become the wandering Tennessee River. This river almost touches Georgia, goes south into Alabama, and then back across Tennessee into Kentucky before emptying into the Mississippi. Looking West, the water flows into Indian Creek, Lake Jocassee, Keowee, Hartwell, Russell, and Thurmond. Below the Dam of Lake Thurmond, it forms the Savannah River, and winds its way into the Atlantic.
