The Colne Valley Circular Walk and the Kirklees Way both use the steps to gain height from Marsden to Wessenden.
The feature to look out for is the single tenterpost. A mile away in Marsden, there is an even finer example of a line of 10 tenterposts - see waypoint for location, however, since this was published you can now visit the tenterposts and find a virtual.
Bank Bottom Mill, where the steps lead, milled cotton but closed in 2003. Before the reservoir was built, the Top Bank Mill stood where the banking now exists. Perhaps the tenterpost belonged to the old Top Bank Mill.
